Kieran has over 16 years’ experience as a patent attorney and specialising in the life sciences, with a particular focus on biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of patent prosecution and portfolio management. In addition to assisting international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies obtain patent protection in Australia and New Zealand, Kieran works with Australian companies to obtain commercially relevant and globally aligned patent protection. His roles range from advising start-ups on patent strategy to managing the patent portfolios of ASX listed companies.

Kieran holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Industrial Property (Intellectual Property Law) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Before joining the patent attorney profession, Kieran was a Clinical Pharmacology Scientist at GSK, held Postdoctoral Fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital in Australia, the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Germany and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and was a Patent Examiner at the Australian Patent Office.

Prior to founding Forte IP, Kieran was a Principal at two large Australian IP firms and has been recommended in the IAM Patent 1000 and recognised as an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property. He is actively involved in the research community and the patent attorney profession, and is currently serving as an Australian representative on the Asian Patent Attorneys Association’s Patents Committee. Kieran authors articles and updates on Australian and New Zealand patent law, and gives presentations at innovation hubs, universities and conferences.
