Kieran joined the patent profession in 2007 and specialises in the life sciences, with particular expertise in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
He has extensive experience across all aspects of patent drafting, prosecution and portfolio management. In addition to assisting international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies obtain patent protection in Australia and New Zealand, Kieran works closely with Australian innovators to secure commercially relevant and globally aligned patent rights. His work includes advising start‑ups on patent strategy, helping SMEs grow their patent portfolios, and managing substantial patent portfolios for ASX‑listed companies.
Kieran holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Industrial Property (Intellectual Property Law) from the University of Technology Sydney. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia.
Before entering the patent attorney profession, Kieran worked as a Clinical Pharmacology Scientist at GSK, held Postdoctoral Fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital in Australia, the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Germany, and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and served as a Patent Examiner at the Australian Patent Office.
Kieran has been recommended in the IAM Patent 1000 and recognized as an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property. He regularly authors updates on Australian and New Zealand patent law and presents at innovation hubs, universities, and conferences.
